Loading, Buffering, Waiting ughh those words how I dread them. On the other hand I love the words instant: instant messaging, instant calls, speedy internet, instant buying, instant movies.
I like the fast passed the NOW, not the waiting… Sometimes I think of myself as a little kid screaming to his mom in the line of the ice cream parlor, I WANT CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM AND I WANT IT NOW, OR ELSE… Pfff God saw that little impatient and stubborn child in me and out of love decided to cut that branch off. Oh and how it hurts, but you know, I have learned much in this season of waiting. In the past months God has revealed multiple things regarding my calling, future ministry, and even about my future husband. Yet at all times God said the same thing, but it is not the time; the verse found in Ecclesiastes 3:1 followed me everywhere, “God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”
My reaction: Lord, why do you show me all of these things now, if it’s not your time for them to come to pass?! Why don’t you tell me when it’s the right time and everything will be fine. Lord, you know the desires of my heart and my passion to follow Your ways, but you are keeping them from me. Then I fuzzed, whined and even said to God, please stop talking I don’t wanna know more now. I questioned His ways, then confusion clouded my judgment to the point where I said, God you can have your gifts keep them. I don’t want the man you have for me, I don’t want the ministry, and just please STOP. Because waiting is to hard to handle, I am to weak to endure; to wait and live in a tent like Abraham in faith for the promise to be claimed. I just can’t handle all of that!
Picture
In my head this whole circumstance kind of looks like this…
Cruising in the highway at 65 MPH, a great speed to reach my destination in no time. Then SCREECHHHH I press my brakes, bringing my car to a full stop. Why?! Because there is heavy traffic up ahead. Then I wait and wait for what it seems to be hours and all I have moved has been a few blocks. Tired of driving at 5 miles an hour, I move the steering wheel rampantly to the first exit in sight, Exit M (exit my way) to satisfy my thirst and hunger for the quick. Then what do I see, a fast food restaurant, is there anything better than a swift, easy and cheap solution for my needs?! Then I order Combo#3 A main dish of my way, a side dish of God’s time and instead of coke, can I have EASY drink. While waiting a few minutes for my order, I think of the amazing, expensive and exquisite plate God desires to treat me with, which is found at Exit G (exit God’s way and time). Ohh How I long for that instead of this, hmmm there has to be another way, just let me think… Got it! How about I ride my bike on top of the cars? That will surely get me there in a instant, without the stress, the sweat, or the difficulty of having to wait.
Friends, if you are anything like me trying to run ahead thinking you know what’s best. I want you know this, that traffic is there for a reason to develop patience, endurance, self-control, dependance, trust, and faith in God, among many other things, “In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone (2 Peter 1:5-7).
We get weary and tired, because we are running in our strength, not in God’s. God wants you to walk by His side, not run ahead. Yes, it’s certainty hard to wait and to be molded to fulfill those promises, but God is preparing you for the day when the plant will bear fruit. Think of a baby, it has to wait 9 months to be born from a mother’s womb while the delicate parts are being formed and equipped to live. We have to wait, if not we can clearly see the consequences a baby can have if it’s born before that season of preparation. In like manner, if we don’t allow the Lord to prepare the way, to mold us, and equip us there can be consequences. What God intended to be a blessing, can become a burden or to hard to face because we weren’t fully matured for them.
Friend, stand strong and in faith, God has been caring for the formation of your life since before you were born, Psalms 139: 13-14 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. How amazing to know that the Creator of the Universe watched and cared for the developing of your body when you were in the womb. More amazing is to know that He continues to do so, that he hasn’t stop, and that He never will until the day we come before His presence,” And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns ( Phil 1:6, NLT).
We may whine, complain, question God’s ways, but the reality is that His ways of thinking surpasses ours, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). He sees the whole picture, while we have a limited view. We see the circumstance, the chaos, we see the now, not the future, not the many things he foresees and know that will hinder us. He desire for us to BE STILL AND KNOW THAT HE IS GOD as David said in Psalm 46:10 and for us to trust in Him with all our hearts, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight( Prov. 3:5-6).
As an amazing artist called Bethany Dillon says, “God can do more in your waiting, than in your doing you can do.” Be sure to check out the song down bellow.
