In a crossroad?
Have you ever been lost? Didn’t you feel restless, when you couldn’t seem to find the right path to finally reach your destination? Well, I have been lost countless times… Thanks to my poor sense of direction, I’ve even gotten lost with a GPA!! Not long ago, I was trying to get to a hotel with a close and dear friend of mine. Her parents saw our super lost faces and insisted on leading us there. We got halfway there and after a slip in communication between her sweet parents and ourselves about the name of the hotel we weren’t in the right place, regardless they offered to take us there as well. But we both thought we could get there in no time with the GPA, so we thanked them and said goodbye. If only it was so…
Little did we know that a 10 minute drive would turn into two hours of driving in circles, passing by multitudes of people dancing in the middle of the street, wishing I had the super power eyesight to drive in pitch black streets, and according to the GPA reaching our destination which was a super sketchy looking and abandoned house in a deserted neighborhood… CREEPYYY! I just laugh remembering our faces when we looked at that haunted looking house and wishing to be in a safe path to our final dwelling place. After all that, I was hesitant on following any other directions by “maps”. We both put such faith in this man made device, that we totally neglected the wisdom of our elders (her parents) as they wanted to lead us to our destination. All this to say, that we often react the same way, not in something as menial as directions to a location but in LIFE. It is said in Jeremiah 6:16 “This is what the Lord says: Stop at the crossroad and look around, ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel it’s path and you will find a rest for your souls. But you replied, No, that’s not the road we want! I posted watchman over you who said, listen for the sound of the alarm. But you replied. No! We won’t pay attention.” A crossroad is commonly known as a place where roads intersect, but also it’s defined as a point where a vital decision is made. On a daily basis we are making decisions whether big or small. Whether it may be contemplating quitting your job, leaving behind a toxic relationship, thinking about getting married, choosing to stay married, applying for a bachelors, going on a mission, putting a down payment, choosing to live for Christ, whichever may be your case know this. God gives us great advice in the mentioned verse.
- Stop at the crossroad and look around
First we are to stop and consider which path and road to take. Be cautious, ask God for guidance in this matter and take the time necessary though it may be hard to wait. Remember that God longs to guide us and be our compass in life. - Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it
It’s not bad to ask, on the contrary it is wise to go to our elders and wiser people around us to give us counsel. They have wisdom to share. Sometimes we insist on learning the hard way and we suffer the consequences, “A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences” (Proverbs 22:3). When all it takes is a willingness to listen to wise counsel and walk in it.
- Travel it’s path and you will find a rest for your souls
Many times we know the path to take. God has made it abundantly clear in our lives, but we insist on taking our own way causing us to feel restless, doubtful, experiencing unnecessary stops on the way. Why?! Because we choose our own path instead of being willing and obedient to God’s direction and route for a specific decision in life.
I encourage you to STOP at the crossroads before making any decision, ask for God’s leading, ask wise advise and travel the path where God is leading you. For in it you will find rest and peace. Not perfection, but rest for your soul.
Heavenly Father, Thank you for your willingness to lead us in every detail of our lives. I praise You, for you are all loving, all merciful and all powerful. I put before You every reader of this post and I ask that You would direct their lives every day. May they have open ears and open hearts to receive your direction and a willing heart to follow your leading. In Your Name I pray! AMEN
