A loaf of bread please…
The other day I remembered how a random little girl knocked on my door and asked for some bread. And I just stood there…
Maybe it was the surprise that a child I had never met would feel comfortable enough to ask a stranger to satisfy her needs. After my unexpected shock that lasted about three minutes, I gave her what she asked. And off she went in her little pink dress with a cup of milk and loaf of bread.
Then I began to ponder in the humility and bluntness of this child, who in a time of need wasn’t afraid to ask. She reminded me that community is there for a reason, “to carry each other’s burden and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Gal 6:2
If you are in need, don’t allow the fear of being a burden keep you from asking for help. It will surprise you how many people are eager to lend a helping hand. It is as much a blessing to give than to receive.
