Why keep breathing?
Michael woke up and repeated the same morning routine since he moved out of his last place. He started by washing his face as if that could wake him up from the weird nightmare of being alive, got dressed and stepped out of his apartment with the same strange sorrow from last week, actually from last month if that even matters. But the only difference is that today is the 27th of the month and not the 25th, or 26th.
But Michael embraces the sorrow because as a materialist the only thing that matters is physics and biology. Everything else is pitiful novels of alternate realities in an unforgiven world.
And then the question begins, why do we need to keep living in such circumstances? The Materialistic worldview helps answer this just as much as pain killers heal cancer.
But what if I tell you that you are important, not in a general sense, like all of us, but that your life is valuable and unique. And what if I tell you that you are the center of the universe. Now, we all know that Galileo received a lot of retaliation from the Catholic church because of this particular matter. Later on, the world recognized Galileo, which indeed the sun was not moving around us, but we were moving around the sun. But today we know that the universe is expanding. If we put two images; one expanded, and the other one reduce, we could clearly see that every point between the pictures, is the center. In conclusion, we can perceive ourselves as the center of our universe.
But what does that have to do with us? We are all the same; we are all humans and oblivion is upon us, chasing our desires and killing our dreams.
But what if God cares for us. What if he cares what’s in our head and how we treat our neighbor?
What if he cares so much that he came to our rescue and died for us, and took the punishment that we deserve on himself?
What if dead is not the end but just the beginning of a new time, and he cares so much about us as if we are the center of the universe.
We are so significant that he thought we deserve his mercy. He loved us so much that he took all our evil of and put it into himself. He has a purpose for us, and a place of unimaginable beauty.
But the question remains, why keep breathing? Keep breathing because the most important person in the universe cares about you, and this life is not the end but a bridge to a new one.
