Am I not enough?
In a World where success is synonymous with status, achievement, and money one can easily become self-conscious of our worth. Falling into mental traps that constantly say that you will only be satisfied when accomplishing (fill in the blank). For you, that may be that acting gig you been working so hard for, the 6 figure job, the master’s degree or a Ph.D, marriage, having kids or a successful ministry.
So we walk in life attempting to accomplish these things leading us to become weary, lacking purpose, and direction when not fulfilled. Which reminds me of a woman called Hannah, who many years ago found herself in the same spot; Consumed by the pressure of society of bearing a son, an heir to the family name. But she was barren and the thought of not having any children brought her deep sorrow and anguish; In spite of being in a good economic situation and being loved fiercely by her husband, she just couldn’t find satisfaction in life to the point of depression
“ Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not eat.” Seeing this her husband responded, ” Why are you crying, Hannah? Why aren’t you eating? Why be downhearted just because you have no children? YOU HAVE ME, ISN’T THAT BETTER THAN HAVING TEN SONS? ” 1 Sam 1:7-8
And clearly, her husband’s love wasn’t enough but was God’ love enough for her? Is God’s love enough for you? Jesus responds to our disappointment with the same tender words of Hannah’s husband: You have me, isn’t that better than having success in the things of this world? Am I not enough?
The knowledge that we are loved and have purpose in Him should be enough to bring us satisfaction.
The knowledge of being a new creation, at the cause of His affliction should bring us peace and joy.
As you continue to pursue the things of this life take the time to see the things above, knowing that only God will bring you the satisfaction, validation and purpose your soul longs for.
