My God, I thank thee
There are so many glorious things we can be grateful for, as the hymn bellow express. But, I bet you didn’t think of thanking the Lord for TRIALS!
Wait, what? Trials?!
Yeap, you read it right. We rarely thank the Lord for the difficulties and problems we face in life. You may think,”who in the right mind would be joyful and thankful for sickness, death of a loved one, debt, problems in your job, etc?”
Someone who knows that the Lord has never left them in the middle of the situation.
Someone who knows God is using the circumstance to mold them to the image of Christ.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5;NLT
So please don’t be disappointment or unthankful this coming thanksgiving, because of all the trials.I have had an overwhelming year myself, but I choose to substitute my anger and complaints with THANKFULNESS AND JOY. Why don’t you join me in doing so?
Adelaide Procter, 1858
The earth so bright,
So full of splendor and of joy,
Beauty and light;
So many glorious things are here,
Noble and right.I thank Thee, too, that Thou hast made
Joy to abound;
So many gentle thoughts and deeds
Circling us round,
That in the darkest spot of earth
Some love is found.I thank Thee more that all our joy
Is touched with pain,
That shadows fall on brightest hours,
That thorns remain;
So that earth’s bliss may be our guide,
And not our chain.
For thou who knowest, Lord, how soon
Our weak heart clings,
Hast given us joys, tender and true,
Yet all with wings;
So that we see gleaming on high
Diviner things.
I thank Thee, Lord, that Thou hast kept
The best in store;
We have enough, yet not too much
To long for more:
A yearning for a deeper peace
Not known before.
I thank Thee, Lord, that here our souls
Though amply blessed,
Can never find, although they seek
A perfect rest;
Nor ever shall, until they lean
On Jesus’ breast.
