Is God Real?
Is God real? Is there a being capable of creating everything in the Universe? Is there someone like that? What’s with all his followers? Who is the true God? What’s the difference with this God and others?
These are some of the questions that were present in my quest for truth. It didn’t matter that I had a few encounters with Jesus, that I assisted church my whole life, that I read the bible frequently or that I read many books on the subject. Simply the doubts were present, then these questions turned into fear. As I considered the possibility that for my whole life I believed in the product of a mental; a product of my consciousness and of society. My heart broke to pieces as I meditated on that possibility. I couldn’t believe that my best friend, Jesus, couldn’t be real.Time passed by and the church body made me believe that doubts and questions could not be expressed. They used to say “To doubt God, is to sin”. Then the verse found in Hebrews 11:6 echoed in my head, “ And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek him.” Yet, the doubts overwhelmed me and many times I escaped reality by ignoring all of my questions, but all it did was weaken my faith. From the very core of my soul, like a venom flowing within me. Just like Job I found myself questioning and discussing with God. Then His answers became mine,
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. JOB 38:4; NLT
Nevertheless, there were questions left unanswered. How was I to know that My God is real? Then my perspective changed, when I thought of our choice to praise Him. We all have a natural tendency to praise something; maybe work, a team, a political party, a profession, an object, or even an idea. It is in our being a necessity to worship, for we were created by God for this very purpose. “ But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24)BUT WHY?! The bible says that Jesus was destined to die before the foundation of the earth (1 peter 1:9) What does this mean? Did God know we would sin against him? Did He know His son would have to give His life in ransom for our sins? But why? Why was He willing to forgive us, and not Satan, who in the same manner revealed himself against God. Because Jesus wanted us to praise Him by choice. We all have freedom of choice, which allows us to choose whether to praise and/or believe in God.It’s true that in order to believe in God you need faith, but It’s also true that you need faith to choose not believe in Him.
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Psalm 19:1
You may think miracles don’t exist and that nothing makes sense. In like manner, you can think that our whole existence that leads to chaos is a great miracle, that only God sustains. You can believe that Jesus died, because no one believed in Him or that He is the product of a weak mind. You can also believe in the first perfect cause, the Creator of substance itself. After all the studies, analysis, and arguments it’s up to you to choose a life of fleeing vanity, momentary passions, and emptiness of the soul. Or you can believe in God who can give you hope and life filled with peace, love, and joy in the midst of the worst circumstances.I invite you today to try Christ, to give Him a chance to be the center of your life. I invite you to allow yourself to be molded by His Word and to live for Him. You won’t regret it. If you wish to do it now, please join me in this prayer…
Lord of the Heavens and the earth, you that can be in the depths of my heart. Forgive me for all the wrong thing I have done. I recognize that you died for me on the cross and You rose again. I ask that you cleanse me with Your blood and that you would write my name in the book of life. In Jesus name, amen.If you prayed this prayer, please go to a local Christian church and make public your confession to Christ.
