Living in the little…
Living in the little?!
That doesn’t sound right, when I could have bigger and better things in life, like an Iphone 6 plus, a BIGGER screen for my eye, a venti frapucino, because a tall one is just not enough for my taste buds, and a great job position that’s high enough to satisfy my ego and all those big desires in life.
Sound familiar?
Because these are the symptoms of a society that only seeks after it’s selfish ambitions.
No wonder our Christian community has become allergic to the little, the humble, the downright small… We have followed the current, forgetting to be set apart. The new trend of little a apostles says enough, a distortion of its true meaning “apostollos” which means to be sent, a servant, a messenger of Christ. Just to be redefined as ladder position of importance in the community of Christ.
And all of this to please who,our God? It seems like the only one we are satisfying is our pride.
Heartbreaking isn’t it? That we dare to call ourselves christians=little Christ, when sometimes we don’t even try to mimic His example of servanthood and humility. Nevertheless, we have a merciful and forgiving Father that is willing to forgive and teach us to be more like Him.
Throughout Scripture we see countless expressions of service and humility by Jesus Christ; take for example John 13:2-5 when Jesus, being the son of God didn’t count it to His own advantage to humble himself and wash the feet of His followers.
Amazing right?! But Lets not skim through this, and really think about FEET
Yes Feet, you read it right!
Specifically the disciples feet, that where probably very stinky and dirty. Who can blame them, they didn’t have a wide selection of shoes, like we do. They just walked miles and miles with sandals in streets without pavement. This makes it it pretty clear, they had very dirty feet! Yet Jesus washed their feet in humility.
Doesn’t that say more than enough of Jesus Christ?
“For even Him who, being God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself of NOTHING, by taking the very nature of a SERVANT, being made in human likeness, and being found in appearance as a man,He HUMBLED himself by becoming obedient to death, even death to the cross.” Phil 2:6-8
This verse gives us great pointers on true servanthood…
- WE ARE TO THINK OURSELVES AS NOTHING and above no one else
- WE ARE TO SERVE IN ALL HUMILITY, giving only glory to God
So how about it, would you like to join me by living in little and trying our best to mimic Christ? Let this be an encouragement to true servanthood!
Lord, we thank you for the example You have given us of humility and service. Forgive us for the many times, we have claimed to serve you, but in our hearts we have served ourselves or others. Lead us daily to die to our desires and seek to pursue yours.
P.S. Owning I phones, having great position and having coffee is not wrong at all, remember that is all in our motives. Just always remember that He is the provider of all good things and to be a good steward of what He has given: talents, gifts, and money.
