Starbuck’s prayers
A little over two months ago I was at Marshalls with some friends trying to look for decorations for my new home. I didn’t find what I was looking for, but on my way out, I saw a book called Praying for Strangers. My friend and I looked at each other, we were baffled to find a book like this in a store like Marshalls. What kept us even more intrigued about it, we google and saw a promotion of it. We soon found out, it is as compilation of testimonies of the different strangers God lead the author to pray for. Without hesitation we bought the book and I knew that it was no coincidence for us to buy it. I was not meant to find decorations that day, but a book that would soon give me a new perspective in life.
The book was soon tossed aside, pilled down with all distractions from life. But Saturday, I decided to undust the book and allow my mind to be lost in it’s pages. They are filled with the work of the Holy Spirit. After reading, I was lead to start the same resolution the author called River Jordan made. TO PRAY FOR A STRANGER EVERY SINGLE DAY. On the coming weeks I will be sharing the testimonies of the strangers that God chose for me to see instead of being mindful of the things in my life. Just as River Jordan expressed,
“How much does it really take for any of us to slow down to attune ourselves to the human condition, to look for another soul passing through our little universe that might need a world of encouragement.”
Monday morning, I woke up excited to know who my stranger for the day was. Every where I went I searched aimlessly for the person that I was to pray for. I scanned the people to see if they showed any signs of needing prayer, silly me. Hours passed and I just seemed to forget that I made a vow to pray for a stranger every day. Had a normal day at work and during the night a friend and I met at local coffee shop. We were enjoying our conversation and our fancy coffee or as my friend likes to call them ” fruity & girly drinks.” A man sits by us and for some reason I stare at him deeply, I saw how tired he seemed. I thought why would he be at the coffee shop at that hour, when he probably has a family. At that point I felt his turmoil and I knew that he was my stranger of the day. During that whole night I prayed for him as I spoke with my friend. The hours passed by as if they were minutes, when the place was about to close we went outside to sit and the man sits by us again. I again start to pray and this time I notice that he is the husband of a close friend. I had never met him, I just remembered him from a picture. Days later I asked my friend if by any chance her husband was at the local coffee shop that specific day. She confirms and tells me with tears in her eyes, that the very day I prayed for her husband he experienced the worse fight he had ever had with their son. Now, my attitude is praise. How God knows everything ! I am happy that God opened my eyes to see the needs around me.
