When it doesn’t feel like Christmas…
Meredith’s Wilson’s song It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas has been the tune of the month here in Idaho.
And to many people it sure has looked a lot like Christmas, as the snow has graced the streets with its unique white and the colorful lights are joyfully twinkling away.
But that’s not the case for all of us, at least not for me… It’s not looking or feeling at all like Christmas.
Instead of rejoicing about the upcoming sounds of bells and family gatherings. I am in mourning and lonely in a sea full of people. I often find myself reminiscing about past Christmas traditions in Puerto Rico and family so close that now is so far away. I miss so much from my country, the people’s warmth, my grandmother’s joyful look during Christmas gatherings, the warm weather, and family.

It’s certainly NOT feeling or looking a lot like Christmas…
But thank God that Christmas is not about feelings, family gatherings, festivities or the weather. It’s about thanking and acknowledging that to us a Savior was given, Jesus, to wash away our scarlet sins to make them white as snow.
No matter the circumstance this Christmas time, Christ is more than enough.
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Lord, forgive us for getting so distracted this season that we forgot its true meaning. Help us to find hope, joy and peace in the midst of the circumstances we are now experiencing. Thank you for sending your only Son to die on a cross for our sins. Your grace and mercy overwhelm me! In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
