Who do you work for?
Well, I don’t know about you, but after watching that video and reading these verses, the Holy Spirit convicted me of certain areas in my life, where I’m just doing good, not great. Knowing that I should give God my first fruits and not my leftovers. Think about it like this, if Jesus were to knock on your door, Hey (your name), can I come in? And you answer: Of course!! Jesus then asks for a bite to eat maybe bread and fish, rushing, I find myself scrummaging my refrigerator for all the leftovers I can find. I give Him a 3 day ago lasaña, with yesterday’s mash potatoes, and something I’m not sure what it was a week ago hmmm it looks good enough, at least it doesn’t have fungus… Would He be pleased with what I served Him? Is that a proper way to treat and serve The King of Kings? I don’t think so… But sadly at times, that is the way we act and serve the King. Taking for granted the privilege we have of being God’s hands, feet and voice. It is no coincidence that you are serving the Lord, whether it is at church, an online ministry, a secular job, even on the street. By God’s amazing grace and mercy, He chose to use us, broken vessels and sinful instruments, for the work of His Kingdom.Yet, other times the case may not be that we are not doing good enough, actually we are doing a really great job; but then we ask ourselves like the video said, who do you worship in the work that you do, who are you serving? It may be that in our hearts, we may be seeking to please other people, more than to please God, or even worshiping yourself… By loving the positive comments others have of your work or how good it makes you feel about yourself. When in reality what we are and what we do, is not because of us, but from the abilities that God has given us. We know that only through His strength are we able to move and impact other people.
This is His show, His movie, His ministry, and His universe. We are just extras, the backstage crew working for Him to accomplish His perfect plan. It should be an honor to serve wholeheartedly and willingly our Almighty God.
How beautiful to know, that though we don’t deserve it, He will reward us for the work that we do. In like manner, He will judge us for what we could have done and what we failed to do. So How about it, will you serve God an offering of first-fruits or the leftovers from the fridge?A close friend of mine once told me, when you love, you don’t give leftovers, but the best. When you put God first, what He asks of us is an honor to do. Yet when other things occupy the first place in our lives than what God asks of us becomes a burden, or too demanding. If God is your first choice, what He desires, will be what you desire and hope for. It will no longer be a burden, but a privilege to serve in His Kingdom.
